Zeyah will be your trail guide as you expand your yoga practice beyond the studio out into our beautiful local natural landscapes. This special yoga / hiking combo event will be offered each month during the summer season. We will start at the studio with a yoga class that prepares your senses, breath, and physical body for a unique hiking experience. Join for one or both outings!
July 29th: Explore the unique landscape on Sauvies Island with this gentle 3 mile loop through tall grasses and oak trees followed by u-pick blueberry gathering at a local farm. Event starts at the NE 30th Small studio at 9am and goes until afternoon.
All of Zeyah’s proceeds for the July hike will go to The House of Hope.
House of Hope is a vibrant kindergarten and elementary school for low- income Muslim and Christian Palestinian children who are increasingly in harm’s way in their West Bank village. Without House of Hope, these children, who are growing up amidst a violent political conflict with neighboring Israel, have painfully few alternatives for quality schooling- and none for early education.
In addition to academic curriculum, House of Hope also provides counseling for students and families struggling with the stress of poverty and the surrounding conflict. Students learn skills for coping in a healthy way, like Nonviolent Communication (NVC), a communication process that gives students the tools to transform their habitual or emerging responses to trauma. All donations to House of Hope go directly to students: classroom materials, books, rent and utility bills, and teacher and social worker salaries.
August 26th: Enjoy a 4 mile out-and-back hike on Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia River Gorge. The beginning of this hike is steep but you are well rewarded with a the beautiful Punch Bowl waterfall and swimming hole at the halfway point. NE 30th Small studio at 9am and goes until afternoon
What to expect: We start at the studio with a75-minute all-level yoga practice that prepares for the specific outing featured that day. We then carpool to the destination and apply the practices of breath, mindful movement, and meditation to our experience in nature. During the hike, enjoy a mix of social time with the other participants, along with structured practices that assist you in expanding your yoga into nature. Please be prepared with food, water, hiking shoes, and sun protection.
I enjoy teaching various styles of yoga, I am an anatomy geek and love getting into the details of alignment, I think props are the coolest… but most of all I love connecting with my students and supporting their curiosity, wisdom, and empowerment.
