Yoga & Rock Climbing at Smith Rock

Join us for an incredible day of rock climbing and yoga at the beautiful Smith Rock State Park in Central Oregon’s high desert.

We’ll begin with a morning yoga practice to prepare the body and mind for climbing. From there we’ll take the practice onto the rocks!

With professional guides, beginners will be shown the ropes and more experienced climbers can hone their skills. Climb as much or as little as you like in a relaxed, supportive, and safe environment. We’ll end the day with a final yoga session to restore and unwind from climbing.

AMGA accredited Chockstone Climbing Guides will provide all necessary equipment; you are welcome to bring your own gear as well.

Click here for information on what to bring, lodging options and where to camp. As we will be meeting early in the morning, we suggest for you to arrive the night before. Check out the above link for camping right on the canyon rim (!) or 8 miles down the road.

Day of schedule:
pre-climb yoga session: 7:30am – 8:30am
guided climb: 9am – 2pm
post-climb yoga: 2:30pm – 3:30pm

About Alix Northup

Alix began her study of yoga as a teenager, when her mom brought her to her first yoga class after discovering she had scoliosis.  She draws from her own experience of finding balance in her body and mind to compassionately assist others on their own unique path of healing and discovery.

A student for over twenty years, Alix has been teaching yoga since 2007.  She is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level, recently completing 300 hours of training with her teachers Tias and Surya Little of Prajna Yoga based in Sante Fe, New Mexico. She received her Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Trainer certification through senior Iyengar teacher Elise Miller, and continues to study yoga for back care and scoliosis with Deborah Wolk from NYC

As a licensed massage therapist, Alix brings a deep understanding of anatomy and alignment into her teaching and hands on adjustments. Her classes combine elements of meditative practice from various traditions with yoga and conscious movement, with intention of bringing mindfulness into into the yoga experience on and off the mat.

Alix offers group classes, private sessions, and workshops specializing in yoga therapeutics and back care both locally and internationally. She spends her free time exploring the outdoors, traveling, gardening, cooking, playing music, and lying in savasana.
