Do you rent mats?
Yes, for $2.
I left my mat/jewelry/clothing/other item at your studio. What do I do?
If you are looking for an item you left/lost: We are, unfortunately, unable to search for you! Please do not email or call – just stop by the studio within 15 minutes before or after a class to check our lost and found.
*At NE Killingsworth, it’s located in the corner across from the bathrooms
*At SE Belmont, it’s located in a wicker basket in the cubbies near the bathroom
*At N Mississippi: its located on the bottom shelf near the mat rental rack
Do I need to sign up ahead of time?
We prefer that you do, but drop-ins are also acceptable. Signing up online provides the benefit of a guaranteed spot in class, avoiding our $0.25 credit card processing fee, and speedier check-in, but it also carries the responsibility of committing to coming to class or cancelling more than 30 minutes before class if you cannot.
Please note: if you register online and do not show for class, you will be charged a non-refundable no show fee (a class from class card holders, your drop-in class if you purchased a single class, and $10 – the cost of a drop-in – for members & scholarship recipients). If you are unsure if traffic will prevent you from arriving for class, please sign up when you arrive.
What is the benefit to signing up ahead of time?
It’s fast. It’s easy. You save your spot in class. That’s right, you save your spot in class (note: you must still arrive on time for class)!
How does online sign in work?
Create an account here on our website or download the Mindbody Connect App . Choose your class, and sign up! It’s that simple. When you come to class, walk to the front desk triumphantly, use an iPad to press the “check in” button next to your name, then head on in to the studio!
Why is this important?
We would love for our teachers to have time before class to check in with students, answer questions, and simply relax. It also provides time to the lovely people who staff our front desk to address any student questions and provide a studio introduction for new students.
I tried to sign-up online, why didn’t it work?
There are several possible reasons as to why this occurs: your class card is out or expired, your membership is expired, your payment info is expired or incorrect, or you may have accidentally created a duplicate online account and this will need to be settled when you arrive at the studio. Unless you get a confirmation, you are not signed-up and will need to sign in with the front desk when you arrive to class. Check out Minbody Connect’s helpful FAQ page here for even more information. Be sure to show up for class at least ten minutes before start time.
Mindbody Connect is not working properly, can TPY help me?
Unfortunately, at this time, TPY cannot help you fix, or set up, your Connect account. Please visit the Mindbody Connect FAQ page for more information.
And, if all else fails, you can always sign up for class here!
How do I cancel a scheduled drop-in class visit?
Simply log into your Mindbody account, or Mindbody connect account at least thirty minutes before the class is scheduled to start and go to the My Account page. In Mindbody online, it will list any visits you have scheduled, and to the left of those visits you will see the option to cancel as long as it is within the thirty minute window. If you are using Mindbody Connect the cancel button is at the very bottom of the my account screen.
May I put my 30 days for $30.00 deal on hold?
No, not unless you are seriously injured and bring in a handwritten note from your MD/NP.
What is a Bike Card and how do I use it?
Ride your bike to class 10 times and receive a free class! If you bike, ask for a bike card from the front desk, have the front desk staff, or teacher, initial your card and then file your new bike card in the index card holder. This program is student run, so file the card in a location you will remember, and pull it out each time you bike to the studio so it can be officially initialed. Bike cards can be used to purchase a free class for you, or a friend, and do not expire!
I have never been to your studio before, what do I need to know??
Just bring yourself, a yoga mat if you have one (if not, we rent them for $2), and maybe a water bottle. Wear loose and comfortable clothing and turn your phone off or on silent when you arrive. Let the teacher know if you have any injuries or other conditions that would effect your practice. Be sure to check out the level of class you are taking and make sure it is appropriate for you. The doors open 15 minutes before the start of class, and the doors are locked at the start of class.
I’m new to yoga, what are some good classes for beginners?
Check out gentle yoga, hatha yoga, yoga foundations, yin yoga, or restorative yoga. All levels hatha & alignment flow can be also good places but are a little more active. Any class you try out, please let the teacher know that you are new to yoga and if you have any injuries or issues that might effect your practice.
What if I have an injury and my doctor/chiropractor recommended yoga?
If you have injuries, The People’s Yoga recommends getting a private yoga class and postural assessment before entering the world of public yoga classes. Some of our yoga classes can be very large–community yoga!– which means that despite our best efforts and intentions, there is not always enough time for the teachers to give personal adjustments and modifications to everyone. Once you have an understanding of your bodies own needs in relationship to yoga asana practice, a public class will be safer, as you will be able to modify and make adjustments suited to your specific circumstances. Always be sure to speak with a teacher before class concerning your injuries and the process by which you are engaging in your own healing. Classes that may be appropriate for those with injuries: Gentle Hatha, Hatha, Yin, Restorative, and Hatha Flow. Vinyasa Flow should be avoided if recovering from an injury, unless you are aware of modifications.
I would like to take a private lesson.
Please email ContactUs@ThePeoplesYoga.org and we can help you find an instructor that can best serve you.
I would like to rent your studio.
Interested in renting one of our lovely studio spaces for a class or event? Please visit our Studio Rental page for more information.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. Any charge $10 and under, there is a $0.25 fee, unless purchased online. Because of the high credit card processing fees we prefer cash and check.
What is your policy for late comers?
As our classes can sometimes reach capacity, we encourage you to show up at least five to ten minutes before class begins.
In an effort to maintain comfortable class sizes, increase access and provide the best possible experience for our students, we are implementing a new policy. Students who register for class and do not show up will be charged a No Show Fee. Students with passes or students who purchased a drop in will forfeit their payment for that class. Students with memberships will be charged $10 (the price of a drop in).
To avoid the fee, please show up 5 minutes before the start of class, or cancel your reservation on-line no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of class. If you are unsure if traffic will prevent you from arriving for class, please sign up when you arrive rather than online.
Our Late Cancel/No Show Policy is meant to enable the maximum availability to our classes, ensure a smooth check-in process for everyone, and have classes start on time.
I have a membership that I’d like to cancel, what do I do?
We require an initial 3 month commitment before you can cancel a membership & 1 month notice prior to your next billing cycle. If you meet both of these requirements, please email us at ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org and we will cancel your membership. It is your responsibility to contact us a full month prior to your requested cancellation or to provide a hand written MD/NP/ND’s note if an immediate cancellation is required due to a medical emergency.
Please note that memberships are auto-renewing and require a written request (email is fine) to cancel. They will not expire or end without your written request to do so. For example, if you are scheduled to be charged July 1st and you want to cancel for the month of July, you must submit an email to ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org on or before June 1st to avoid being charged on July 1st.
Refunds will not be given if you decide to cancel after a payment has already processed and the 1 month notification requirement cannot be waived except in the case of a documented medical emergency.
I’m going out of town/am sick/injured/etc, and need to suspend my membership, how do I do that?
We will happily suspend a membership if needed for a reasonable reason. You must notify us 1 month in advance and you are allowed 3 suspensions per year. They must be at least 1 week in length and maximum hold is 6 months.
Please note, you may not suspend your auto-pay indefinitely – a reactivation date is required. If you’re not sure when you’d like to reactivate, you’ll need to cancel the auto-pay and re-open a new account when you’re ready.
However, you must email us 1 month BEFORE you need the suspension. We will not refund or go back after the fact. It is up to you to use your membership to your satisfaction.
I heard you offer scholarships, how do I apply?
Please visit The People’s Yoga Scholarship Program page for more information.
I am interested in teaching opportunities, what should I do?
Please email ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org and attach a current resume with your teacher training listed with dates, location, and name of your program as well as your up-to-date teaching experience. In addition, please include a short video of you teaching, either in front of a class or simply in your room. In that same email let us know your teaching availability, preferred teaching styles, how many classes you currently teach per week, and for how long you have been regularly teaching.
I’m on a tight budget, what are my options?
We offer a handful of work/study arrangements. The positions are highly sought and require a minimum 6 month commitment and dedication to regular attendance (to both your scheduled shifts and to classes). Please contact ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org for more information. We also offer a scholarship program. Please visit The People’s Yoga Scholarship Program page for more information.
I left my yoga mat and water bottle at the studio? What do I do?
While we understand that your belongings are valuable to you, we don’t have the hands on staff to search for your mat or water bottle. We simply place them in the lost and found mat area, and invite you to stop in and look when the studio is open. As a reminder, the studios are only open 15 minutes before and after each class. Please visit our online schedule to view class times and find an appropriate time to look for your belongings. If mats are left for over a month, they will be removed from the lost and found area and either donated or sold in our biannual cheap mat sale.
How do I register for a workshop online?
From our website, simply click the Register button next to the workshop you would like to attend. This will direct you our Mindbody page, where you will sign in, or create your account if you are brand new to our system. Click the Sign Up Now button and you will be taken step-by-step through the process of enrolling in your next fabulous TPY event. Member discounts are automatically applied, so you don’t have to worry about any extra actions.
What if my registration is not going through?
You may be attempting to sign up to an event where the workshop is sold out and the wait list is already full. Please email ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org to confirm that there is no longer space.
What does it mean to be on the wait list?
If space should become available for an event or workshop and you are at the top of the wait list, you will be enrolled and emailed to authorize payment. You have 24 hours to respond, otherwise your space will be given to the next person on the wait list. Please verify your MindBody account is up to date with your current email address and billing information.
What is your cancellation/refund policy for events?
Please email ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org more than 7 days prior to the event for cancellation. No refunds less than 7 days prior to the event.
