May Saturday Evening Donation Classes to Benefit Living Yoga at Peoples SE and NE!


All through May, join Melina Donalson, Kelly Connor, Courtney Hynum, and Rachel Stern to raise money for the fabulous non-profit Living Yoga.

All classes are from 7-8:30 p.m. Suggested donation of $10, although we encourage you to give what you can. Every dollar counts! Read all about Living Yoga and the amazing work they do to keep Yoga accessible to all members of our community here.

In this course we wiII take a Iook at this divine set of 10 according to the Rajanaka tantra teachings, where aII the characters in the story are you. We will try their forms on for size through the conscious movement practice we caII Yoga. A Very Special Yin Class with Guest Teacher Amy Mathews

Sunday May 19th, 7:15-8:30 p.m.

We are pleased to announce that Amy Mathews – co-Author of ‘Yoga Anatomy’, considered by many to be one of the foremost yoga teachers in the country will be guest teaching Yin on Sunday May 19th for Renee Sills.

Those of you who love Renee’s attention and intuitive guidance on anatomical detail will love to meet her longtime teacher Amy. We hope you can join us for this rare honor. The class will be priced as usual and class card and memberships are fine, but we recommend that you pre-register online. This one will sell out!

Here is a bit about Amy:

Amy Matthews, CMA, IDME, BMC Teacher, RSMT/RSME has been teaching movement since 1994. She is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst, a Body-Mind Centering® Teacher, an Infant Developmental Movement Educator, and a movement therapist and yoga teacher.

Amy co-taught with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen for five years and was on the faculty of the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies for ten years. She has taught embodied anatomy and movement workshops for programs in the United States and internationally, and leads the BMC® & Yoga programs in the United States.

Amy co-authored with Leslie Kaminoff the best-selling book Yoga Anatomy, and together Amy and Leslie teach The Breathing Project’s Advanced Studies courses in New York City. Visit Amy’s website at embodiedasana.com

Yoga for Bigger Bodies with Julie Westlin-Naigus

Mondays 7:00-8:15pm, May 20th-July 15th.

Yoga can be for every body and this class provides a safe space for anyone at any size to become more in tune with their body. Yoga for Bigger Bodies is designed to bring yoga to those who feel that the traditional class setting is not providing the support and encouragement that is needed to feel successful in Yoga.Yoga for Bigger Bodies is a gentle yoga class that provides mindfulness, self-care, and mind/body/spirit connection. This class will provide you with tools that will help build strength, flexibility, and confidence not just physically but also mentally.This 8-week series is open to anyone who feels that they are out of shape, a larger body, or who just feel like they would enjoy being in a yoga class with similar shapes and sizes. There is no weight requirement for this class and all levels are welcome.

Cost: Early bird registration before May 6th: $70, after May 6th: $90

Yoga for Moms and Babies with Kate Sanderson Holly

At The People’s Yoga SE, 4246 SE Belmont, Portland, OR

May 22nd – June 26th, 2013
Wednesdays 12:00 – 1:00pm

6 weeks of post-partum recovery and baby bonding through yoga!

-Rebuild core and pelvic floor muscles
-Develop the strength and flexibility to care for your baby
-Reduce stress and fatigue
-Integrate baby into postures either as participant or witness (babies up to one year are welcome)
-Nursing during class is welcome
-Meet other caretakers in a safe and welcoming environment

About Kate Sanderson Holly, ERYT:

Yin Yoga Exploration with Julie Baron

Saturday, May 25th, 2013, 2 – 5:30pm

In this workshop we will explore anatomy, both physical and subtle. Understanding basic skeletal structures and simple energetic currents in the body are a crucial component for practicing Yin Yoga with awareness and integrity.
After learning about structures and currents, we’ll have an extended Yin practice incorporating our new knowledge. This portion will be more hands-on (adjustments and awareness cues) than our weekly practices.This Yin Yoga Exploration is open to anyone wanting to incorporate a foundational level of anatomical and energetic anatomy into their practice. Space is limited, please register in advance to reserve your place.
