Coronavirus Questions

Are you open?

We sure are! The studio is currently open. Check out our Health and Safety policies for more info on current protocols. The in studio schedule is growing every other week, so check out the schedule and keep your eye peeled for “In Studio” classes.

What about livestream? How can I attend classes via live stream?

Head to the Class Schedule and sign up for the class you’d like to take! You’ll immediately receive and automated email with the link and passcode for the class you’d like to attend. (ATTN: New Students: read the paragraph below to make sure you’re set up to receive those emails!)

>> Hey, New Students! Welcome! It’s important when registering for your first live streamed class that you make sure you’re set up to receive all notifications by email. Unfortunately, Mindbody text alerts will not give you the info you need. To update those settings, look at the “My Info” tab in Mindbody. Also, please double check that the email in your Mindbody account is accurate as that is the email we will be sending your link to.

New Student Questions

Where are you located?

The People’s Yoga Northeast. Please note we have three studio rooms at our Northeast location.
NE Killingsworth – 3014 NE Killingsworth Portland (30th & Killingsworth), OR 97211
Killingsworth Studio 1 (Large Studio) & Killingsworth Studio 2 (Small Studio) & Killingsworth Studio 3 (Medium Studio)

The People’s Yoga Southeast, SE Hawthorne Studio
4029 SE Hawthorne Portland, OR 97215

We do offer studio rentals at both locations. Check out the Studio Rental page for more details.

When are you open?

We do not have an open lobby – we only open our doors 15 minutes before each scheduled class time. If the door is locked, don’t worry! We will open it as soon as we reach 15 minutes before the start of class time.

I have never been to your studio before, what do I need to know??

Just bring yourself, a yoga mat if you have one (if not, we rent them for $2), and maybe a water bottle. Wear loose and comfortable clothing and turn your phone off or on silent when you arrive. Let the teacher know if you have any injuries or other conditions that would effect your practice. Be sure to check out the level of class you are taking and make sure it is appropriate for you. The doors open 15 minutes before the start of class, and the doors are locked at the start of class.

I’m new to yoga, what are some good classes for beginners?

Check out gentle yoga, hatha yoga, yoga foundations, yin yoga, or restorative yoga. All levels hatha & alignment flow can be also good places but are a little more active. Any class you try out, please let the teacher know that you are new to yoga and if you have any injuries or issues that might effect your practice.

Can I bring my kid with me to yoga?

We allow children 12 and over, if accompanied by an adult (someone 18 or over).

What if I have an injury and my doctor/chiropractor recommended yoga?

If you have injuries, The People’s Yoga recommends getting a private yoga class and postural assessment before entering the world of public yoga classes.  Some of our yoga classes can be very large–community yoga!– which means that despite our best efforts and intentions, there is not always enough time for the teachers to give personal adjustments and modifications to everyone.  Once you have an understanding of your bodies own needs in relationship to yoga asana practice, a public class will be safer, as you will be able to modify and make adjustments suited to your specific circumstances.  Always be sure to speak with a teacher before class concerning your injuries and the process by which you are engaging in your own healing.  Classes that may be appropriate for those with injuries: Gentle Hatha, Hatha, Yin, Restorative, and Hatha Flow. Vinyasa Flow should be avoided if recovering from an injury, unless you are aware of modifications.

Need help finding a great instructor to take private lessons from? Email ContactUs@ThePeoplesYoga.org and we’d love to help you find an instructor that will be a great fit for your needs.

I left my mat/jewelry/clothing/other item at your studio. What do I do?

If you are looking for an item you left/lost: We are, unfortunately, unable to search for you! Please do not email or call – just stop by the studio within 15 minutes before or after a class to check our lost and found.
*At NE Killingsworth, it’s located in the corner across from the bathrooms
*At SE Hawthorne, it’s located in a wicker basket in the cubbies near the bathroom
*At N Mississippi: its located on the bottom shelf near the mat rental rack

Class Payment and Enrollment Questions

Do I need to sign up ahead of time?

It’s awesome if you’re able to sign up ahead of time simply because it allows our teachers and staff more time to address any student questions or needs in those boisterous moments before class. Signing up online provides the added benefits of a guaranteed spot in class and speedier check-in, but it also carries the responsibility of committing to coming to class or cancelling 1 hour before class if you cannot make it.

To sign up online, create an account here on our website (Hit the registration button in the top right hand corner) or download the Mindbody Connect App . Choose your class, and sign up! It’s that simple. When you come to class, walk triumphantly to the front desk, use an iPad to press the “check in” button next to your name, then head on in to the studio!

I tried to sign-up online, why didn’t it work?

There are several possible reasons as to why this occurs: your class card is out or expired, your membership is expired, your payment info is expired or incorrect, or you may have accidentally created a duplicate online account and this will need to be settled when you arrive at the studio. Unless you get a confirmation, you are not signed-up and will need to sign in with the front desk when you arrive to class. Check out Minbody Connect’s helpful FAQ page here for even more information. Be sure to show up for class at least ten minutes before start time.

How do I cancel a scheduled drop-in class visit?

Simply log into your Mindbody account, or Mindbody connect account at least one hours before the class is scheduled to start and go to the My Account page.  In Mindbody online, it will list any visits you have scheduled, and to the left of those visits you will see the option to cancel as long as it is within the thirty minute window.  If you are using Mindbody Connect the cancel button is at the very bottom of the My Account screen.

Mindbody Connect is not working properly, can TPY help me?

Unfortunately, at this time, TPY cannot help you fix, or set up, your Connect account. Please visit the Mindbody Connect FAQ page for more information. And, if all else fails, you can always sign up for class here!

May I put my 30 days for $45.00 deal on hold?

No, not unless you are seriously injured and bring in a handwritten note from your MD/NP.

Do you rent mats?

Yes, for $2.

I have a membership that I’d like to cancel, what do I do?

We require an initial 3 month commitment before you can cancel a membership & 2 weeks notice prior to your next billing cycle. If you meet both of these requirements, please email us at ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org and we will cancel your membership.

Please note that memberships are auto-renewing and require a written request (email is fine) to cancel. They will not expire or end without your written request to do so. For example, if you are scheduled to be charged July 1st and you want to cancel for the month of July, you must submit an email to ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org on or before June 15th to avoid being charged on July 1st.

Refunds will not be given if you decide to cancel after a payment has already processed.

I’m going out of town/am sick/injured/etc, and need to suspend my membership, how do I do that?

We will happily suspend a membership if needed. You must notify us 2 weeks in advance and students can up to 3 suspensions per year. They must be at least 1 week in length and maximum hold is 6 months.

Please note, you may not suspend your auto-pay indefinitely – a reactivation date is required. If you’re not sure when you’d like to reactivate, you’ll need to cancel the auto-pay and re-open a new account when you’re ready.

I’m on a tight budget, what are my options?

We offer a handful of work/study arrangements. The positions require a minimum 6 month commitment and dedication to regular attendance (to both your scheduled shifts and to classes). Check out this page for more info and contact ContactUs@thepeoplesyoga.org information on currently available shifts.

We also offer a scholarship program. Please visit The People’s Yoga Scholarship Program page for more information.

Finally, keep an eye on the class schedule for classes with our teacher trainees and alumni for free and donation based classes.

What is a Bike Card and how do I use it?

Walk or ride your bike to class 20 times and receive a free class!  If you bike, ask for a bike card from the front desk, have the front desk staff, or teacher, stamp your card and then file your bike card in your wallet for next use. Bike cards can be used to purchase a free class for you, or a friend, and do not expire!

Questions About Workshops and Events

How do I register for a workshop online?

Click the Sign Up Now button and you will be taken step-by-step through the process of enrolling in your next fabulous TPY event. Member discounts are automatically applied, so you don’t have to worry about any extra actions. What does it mean to be on the wait list for workshop?
